How do you get medical cannabis in Colombia?
With a doctor’s prescription and an authorized establishment. First, a doctor decides with you whether cannabis treatment is appropriate. If it is, the doctor writes a prescription, and you fill it at an establishment allowed to dispense it.
1. See a licensed doctor
The doctor must be listed in ReTHUS, Colombia’s register of health professionals (Law 1164 of 2007, art. 23). The visit can be online: Resolution 1644 of 2026 allows prescribing in a teleconsultation (art. 20).
2. Get the right prescription
If the product has 2 mg of THC or more per dose, the doctor uses the official prescription pad, on paper (Resolution 315 of 2020, art. 5; Resolution 1478 of 2006, arts. 81 and 84). If it has less, an ordinary prescription is enough, and it can be electronic.
3. Choose where to fill it
Magistral (compounded) preparations are made by establishments that hold Invima’s Good Compounding Practices certificate for cannabis (Decree 1138 of 2025, art. 12). They are listed in our pharmacy directory. If the product is controlled, the establishment must also be registered with the National Narcotics Fund or a departmental Narcotics Fund (Resolution 1478 of 2006, art. 12).
You can choose the authorized establishment you prefer (Law 1751 of 2015, art. 6). If your health insurer (EPS) covers the product, it is delivered through the insurer’s network.
4. Fill it on time
A controlled product is not dispensed if the prescription is more than 15 days old (Resolution 1478 of 2006, art. 97).
5. Under 2 mg, it can come to your door
According to Invima, home delivery is compatible with dispensing these products (Invima External Circular 1000-016-2026, num. 7).
